I recently spent a weekend in STL and was pleasantly surprised by this city. Honestly it wasn't our original plan to go here, it was only on a whim that we decided to drive from Dallas, but after leaving I know that we will surely be back.
Brewery Recommendations:
Beer was the main draw for us and although we did not get to visit everything we wanted to, there is always next time.
Side Project Brewing
Side Project is known for their barrel aged sour beers, and man do they do them well. We visited the brewery and not their cellar down the street. This was not only the best beer in the city but the most knowledgeable/friendly beertenders.
Must Drink:
Peche de Fermier, Belgian Saison aged in Cabernet Barrels 8%
One of the most expressive peach beers I have ever had. A tremendous sour beer with a tremendous Peach and barrel character.
Framboise du Fermier, Belgian Saison aged in wine barrels with raspberries for over a year before bottled 8%
The aroma is complex and I would probably do it injustice trying to explain..... an absolute must have
Shared Shaeson, Gose with grey salt, lemon peel and French Lavender 4.5%
4 Hands Brewing
We were drawn to 4 Hands because of the collaborations they had done with other reputable breweries. They have a copper still on display where they also produce gin; which they offer their gin and tonic on draft (Yum!). There is a great atmosphere here and 3 different chill zones; patio, inside that feels like a pub, spacious upstairs arcade that feels like a sports bar.
Must Drink:
Cast Iron Oatmeal Brown, Brown Ale 5.5%
Delicious Brown Ale! Tons of Chocolate and nut flavor and aroma with a delightfully full mouth feel.
Liquid Wet Hop Centennial Red, Red IPA
6%
A very enjoyable aroma of fresh flowers and citrus zest, complimented by a toasty, nutty malt body. A delightful beer.
First Impressions, Wit Beer w/ Lactose sugar on Nitro, 7%
A Blueberry Milk Shake all day!! I highly recommend this beer if you like delicious things!
Sschlafly Brewing
This is crowned the St. Louis Brewery and is a staple of STL institutions. We visited the bottling site that felt more like a restaurant than anything. Schlafly has more clean style beer, but made very well. If you are looking for something sessionable I recommend stopping by here and having a drink on their patio, or inside with live music.
Breweries for Next Time:
Heavy Riff
Narrow Gauge
Civil Life
Anheuser Busch
Places to Eat:
Brunch- Rooster
Their slinger is named the best breakfast in all of Missouri and for good reason. If you are looking for hearty and filling, you found it! I ordered the banana nut pancakes and they were pretty amazing.
Lunch- Fork & Stix
Great for lunch or dinner and located on the bustling Delmar Loop. I highly recommend their Khao Soi which is traditionally from Chaing Mai.
Dinner- Bridge tap house and wine bar
We stumbled upon this place because it was close to our Airbnb, and it was AMAZING! They have so many craft beers on tap and in bottles to go. They also had an extensive wine list. Although the beer was amazing, the food was as well. We created out own charcuterie board and then I followed it up with a lemon pesto, asparagus tagliatelle.
Dessert- Ted Drewes
A frozen yogurt treat that is a STL staple that you must visit! There have to be 20-30 people working at the original establishment and always has a line; but the 10+ lines, go by quickly. We tried Lemon Crumb and Oatmeal, and both are to die for!
What To Do:
Gateway Arch- One of the coolest icon statues in the states. Make sure you plan and buy your tickets ahead of time. We walked up on our last day, and weren't able to go up to the top.
Delmar Loop- Looking for a bite to eat, eclectic shops or just good people watching, Delmar Loop has you covered.
Ride a Motor Scooter around the city- The city is infested with motorized scooters that you can rent through an app. However, I could hardly find some that weren't being rode. I really wanted to rent one but I didn't feel like heels would be the best choice for this endeavor.

St. Louis has the largest Bosnian diaspora in the world so next time you go, make sure to look into some Bosnian food! Jill and I loved Grbic but there are others.
