Manhattan is way too expansive to only see it in a day, much less scratch the surface. I highly recommend spending a weekend here at the least.
Since I have been to New York before, I decided to keep my exploration to a walking distance. I was staying in Battery Park City (if you have kids, this area is pretty wonderful). When visiting New York I mainly care about the views and the FOOD!
Brunch at Bubby's:
Went for brunch and stayed for pie. I had a yummy Eggs Benedict, however my brother swears by the Huevos Rancheros. I was blown away by how wonderfully buttery and flaky their biscuits were. As if I wasn't full already, somebody orders the tart cherry pie... Hands down the best cherry pie I have ever had (and cherry is my favorite kind of pie)!
China Town:
Columbus park was the tell tale sign we had made it to China Town because it was something straight out of a movie with Chinese men playing chess and mahjong on park tables all huddled around one another.
Jin Fong (Dim Sum):
This fast paced, delicious dim sum restaurant provides a unique experience where you choose your selections out of bamboo steam baskets from ladies walking around with push carts. Plates are meant to be shared, so you can try all of the different items they have. Keep in mind that if you have a small group, you may be sat at a large round table with another group.
Eggloo in China Town:
Across the street from Columbus Park was Eggloo a bubble waffle dessert hole in the wall. If you do anything in China Town, this is it! They have 3 flavors of bubble waffle I got green tea with green tea ice cream and mochi! My friend got the regular waffle with a strawberry cheese cake ice cream with fruity pebbles and mochi! Both amazing depending on your threshold of sweetness.
Brooklyn Bridge:
Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is super scenic and MUST do when in Lower Manhattan. Fun Fact: The Brooklyn Bridge was the first steel wired suspension bridge in the WORLD. No wonder it is one of the most popular things to do in NYC and its FREE! Go early in the morning on a weekend and skip the crowds for the best shot and to beat the heat.
Loopy Droopy Rooftop Bar:
Adult popsicles in Prosecco, with a view! ENOUGH SAID!
This small yet lively bar is on top of the Conrad Hotel in Battery Park City with a pretty good view of Jersey City.
I didn't use the subway at all while in New York. All of the places mentioned above were either walked or a short Uber ride away. If it is your first time, I do recommend using the subway just for the experience.
Other Sweet Treats Around Town that are worth a stop!
BIG GAY ICE CREAM:
This fun eclectic ice cream shop in the West Village is a perfect cool down on a hot summer day! I ordered the Salty Pimp and man was it messy. Ha!
Union Fare Bakery:
I am a sucker for pastries! Honestly, I rarely order any birthday flavor things, but this was AWESOME! This was the best croissant I have ever had.
I <3 NY
